Phil LaMothe
My dancing career actually began at the age of 10 when I began
figure skating. Over the next 13 years, I competed at the state,
regional, and national levels as well as taught and coached
skaters for social and competitive skating. Figure skating
provided me with invaluable information on footwork, body
positioning and the art of spinning and turning.
At 23, I entered the world of dancing with offers to teach
during the first year of my training. Now after 29 years of
dancing, competing, teaching, coaching, and judging in the
social and competitive dance arenas, I am well versed in
American Ballroom and Latin dancing, International Ballroom and
Latin dancing, Swing, Hustle and competitive Country Couples
dancing. I have sought out, trained with, and continue to train
with the very best coaches in all of the dance styles.
Focusing greatly on the fundamentals of good
dancing, my students have achieved great success on both the
social and competitive dance floors, while always remembering
that fun and courtesy for others is the heart and soul of social
dancing.
I am very active in the swing community where I teach and
judge nationally. My students travel throughout the country to
social dance and successfully compete at swing conventions.
As the owner of the Rhythm in Shoes, I am dedicated to
providing the best information at a reasonable cost in a casual
and fun environment. I focus on teaching my students excellent
dance skills and social dance etiquette, while always having
fun. I teach a complete sound theory of spinning and turning for
any level dancer using information from figure skating and
physics.
In 1994, I was awarded the Pro-AM Competitors Instructors
award at the UCWDC Country World Championships in Nashville,
Tennessee. I firmly believe that if you want to find a great
dance instructor, you first observe good dancers then ask for
their instructor’s name. There are many, many great dancers
out there, but only a few great instructors.
If you are looking for a great instructor, I am looking
forward to working with you in a group class or private lesson
format.
